Over 40,000 attend 2019 Cleveland Asian Festival

For Immediate Release

June 14, 2019

Cleveland, OH – The 2019 Cleveland Asian Festival (CAF) was the 10th annual event.  Each year, CAF has welcome tens of thousands of visitors to Cleveland’s AsiaTown neighborhood.   Official City of Cleveland Police estimates indicates that over 40,000 people attended the 2019 event the weekend of May 18 and 19.

Besides the massive influx of people to AsiaTown on those days, organizers suggest that the lasting effects are even greater.  CAF introduces AsiaTown to thousands of new visitors each year.  Crowd responses show that for about 30% of attendees this was their first visit to the AsiaTown neighborhood.

In addition, a large majority of attendees plan to return to AsiaTown to shop, visit, eat and enjoy the neighborhood.  Cleveland Asian Festival co-founder Johnny Wu says “The economic impact of the Festival is much greater than the thousands of dollars spent that weekend.  After experiencing the neighborhood at CAF, people return to AsiaTown with their friends and families to take advantage of all that it offers.”

During the Festival, CAF MC Wayne Wong and Basheer Jones, Councilman of Ward 7, announced that a street in AsiaTown would be named to honor Stanley Eng posthumously.  Mr. Eng was a champion especially of the poor and elderly of the Chinese community in the neighborhood.

The Cleveland Asian Festival team is already working on planning the 2020 event to be held on the weekend of May 16-17, 2020.
