Cleveland Asian Festival Asian-Pop Dance Competition

Cleveland, OH – One of the highlights of the annual Cleveland Asian Festival, especially with the younger crowd, is the popular dance competition. Fortunately the rain held out till the end of the competition.
This was the 5th year of Asian Pop Cover Dance competition at CAF. It originally began as a K-Pop (Korean) competition but has evolved to include other A-Pop (Asian) performances from China, Japan and other Asian cultures. The competition along with all performances was sponsored by OCA Greater Cleveland through a grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.
Dance crews had to submit videos of their performances in advance. A team of respected judges narrowed down the submissions to the six who performed live at the Festival. The five competition judges were Sherron Gurepko, Krisha Castro, Claudia Luu, Javae Brown, and Margaret Li.
The event was MC-ed by Subteam leads Raymond Bondad and Lauren Puljic. The 1st Place $1000 winner was 5K who came up from Columbus.
The 2nd Place $500 winner was Classick from Cincinnati.
Coming in third and winning $250 was Solar Dance Team from Cleveland.
The other three finalists also provided outstanding routines giving the judges a very difficult task. They were ChoomKkun from Dayton, Phoenix Q from Cleveland, and Soju from Akron.
The quality of the performances is a testament to the talent in the Asian communities around the state of Ohio. We can’t wait to see what the 2023 Asian Pop Dance Competition at the Cleveland Asian festival will bring.
About the 2022 Cleveland Asian Festival
The Cleveland Asian Festival is an annual celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage month in May in Cleveland’s AsiaTown neighborhood. It is a landmark undertaking to unite the community through collaboration and recognition of its culture, diversity, and people. The 2022 Cleveland Asian Festival was be held on Saturday May 21 and 22. The 2023 event will be May 20/21, 2023.
