Cleveland Asian Festival Draws 30,000+

Cleveland, OH – After being a virtual event last year because of Covid, the Cleveland Asian Festival was back as a live event and the people responded! Police estimated the crowd over the 2 days as over 30,000 people.
A sizeable percentage of the attendees had never been to AsiaTown before, let alone the Cleveland Asian Festival. They were welcomed to the neighborhood with entertainment, shopping, a Health Pavilion, A-Pop dance competition, continuous entertainment on 2 stages (including the Kwan Family Lion Dance Team!) and, of course, food!
CAF has always been considered as the festival that kicks off summer and they reclaimed that spot this year. Johnny Wu, one of the founders of CAF, stressed that the health and safety of the attendees, vendors, performers and volunteers was the number one priority. He said, “The CAF team worked with and monitored civic and health agencies to insure the health and well-being of all. Everyone was very pleased that tens of thousands of people could be back in person enjoying AsiaTown after the pandemic shutdowns.”

Besides the large number of attendees, CAF leadership judges the event by how it meets its mission which has remained the same over the years:
• Strengthening the identity of AsiaTown and supporting its economic growth
• Educating and promoting Asian culture and traditions
• Celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and Cleveland’s Diversity
• Uniting Cleveland’s Asian Community
Lisa Wong, president of OCA Greater Cleveland and one of the founders of CAF, says “It’s wonderful to see so many new attendees to AsiaTown who indicated that they were eager to return to shop and dine. People enjoyed all the cultural performances that were on display ranging from Martial Arts, to intricate dance routines, to the Asian-Pop dance competition thanks to a grant from Cuyahoga Art & Culture.”
By any measurement the 2022 Cleveland Asian Festival was a huge success.
About the 2022 Cleveland Asian Festival
The Cleveland Asian Festival is an annual celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage month in May in Cleveland’s AsiaTown neighborhood. It is a landmark undertaking to unite the community through collaboration and recognition of its culture, diversity, and people.
